When it comes to deciding on how to rate golf courses the process is extremely subjective. There are golfers who love links golf who would not thank you for playing some of the United States’ courses which regularly host major championships.   • Kiawah Island in South Carolina is remembered as the host of the Ryder Cup in 1991 and as the course where Rory McIlroy won the USA PGA. There are five courses in all and excellent accommodation in the resort.

  • The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin is famous for Whistling Straits which has held the PGA 3 times. It has over 1,000 bunkers. There are 3 other courses of which one is also links-like on the shores of Lake Michigan. There are 3 5 star hotels and a smaller boutique hotel.


  • Mission Hills on Hainan Island, China has 12 courses, plenty of quality accommodation and things for the family to do while the golfers play 18 holes.


  • Fancourt in George, South Africa on the Garden Route has 3 courses and has held a series of professional tournaments in its short history; South African Open and the President’s Cup.
